this is fascinating... it looks so much like
she is in a car, that the mind keeps trying
to make her real (and lifeless, maybe with
her throat cut, and blood on her face) and
not a statue... frightening.

Gorgeous photo! After a little search on the
internet, I found this info on Swann
Fountain:
Swann Memorial Fountain
1924 by Alexander Stirling Calder
The center of Logan Square belongs to a
popular fountain sculpture by Alexander
Stirling Calder, son of the City Hall artist
and father of the mobile artist.
Adapting the tradition of “river god”
sculpture, Calder created large Native
American figures to symbolize the area’s
major local waterways: the Delaware River (a
man), the Schuylkill River (a woman) and
Wissahickon Creek (a girl).

Interesting perspecitve. She is quite
beautiful, and much different from how I
usually think of Calder's work. She does
seem quite alive. Love it!

I have to agree with abrietta; this statue
looks like she is most definitely sitting in
a car. Very unusual subject.

I'm intrigued by the title as much as the
picture. I have relatives in Schuylkill
Haven, PA but I haven't seen them in, oh,
35-40 years.
I like this but like much more of your
other work better.

This really is a beautiful statue. She
looks very good for 82 years old! I visited
her again on Saturday in the rain. If you
search "swann fountain" you can see
color summer photos. This will help you to
appreciate her size. It's a meeting place
during hot days when people, and more just
just a few dogs, jump in and splash around to
cool off..
