A mystery gets deeper
Sometimes the tombstones add to the mystery! I had found info that my Grandfather had a 2nd wife (my Grandmother was his 3rd) named Ida and that she was "a dressmaker who died in childbirth". Then I found online info that showed this one on the right, "Iola L.C." who was married to Dr. J.J. Jeter (my Grandfather). Case closed, her name is Iola, not Ida. But... right beside her stone, maybe a foot away, is one for Howell R. Ammons, husband of "Ida L. Ammons" (2 n's) but Ida instead of Iola. On the right-hand stone it shows "Iola" as the wife of H.R. Amons (one "n"). Dang, no help here after all! I guess I'm not supposed to know for sure. If she had lived, I wouldn't be here now and you'd be looking at somebody else's photos!
News Flash! Texas Marriages 1837-1973 lists "Ida Ladora Cruse" marrying Howell R. Ammons on 28 Apr 1912. It sure appears that "Iola L.C. Ammons- Jeter" was in truth, Ida Ladora Cruse. The name "Ammons" was misspelled on her stone so they must have also used Iola instead of Ida - that could have been from sloppy handwriting on the tombstone order, who nose?
