The Plain White T's @ Rockband Live -- 2008.10.19

The Plain White T's @ Rockband Live -- 2008.10.19 by Todd | ishootshows.com.
A little fire and ice treatment on singer Tom Higgenson of The Plain White T's, but this time in a good way. A lot of times we see a red-blue combo in the backlighting, but this came from the back and side, making for a slightly more interesting two-tone effect.

This lighting flared up for only a second.

Hey G, thanks. Yup, I owe this one to the lighting tech.

Dude!
I cant wait for my 5D MK II.
I rely so heavily on m 1.4 glass and cant hardly go past 1250 ISO.

Question- In this image, is the musician close to the front of the stage?
I often have a problem when they are bathed in Dirty light that it is impossible to get a good shot.
One Example- Todd Snider With Yonder Mountain String Band Last weekend- Couldnt get a good shot :

This one is perfect - www.flickr.com/photos/chad-smith/2957725160
It is almost like there is a pane of glass in between the 2 of them. Is this something that just happens and nothing you can do about it? Or can the D3 sensor just superior at gathering Photons?

BTW- Your work is incredible

Hey Chad, thanks for the comment. In this shot, the singer is fairly close to the front of the stage, yes.

In your examples, I do know what you mean. It looks like this is due to the lighting of the event, rather than equipment, especially in the low contrast color washes. There isn't much you can do about that other than trying to set WB to something that will give you more separation.

The light is just low contrast, I don't think the camera has too much to do with it.

Thanks again!

A great moment in time captured right at the very moment it happened! Great shot Todd! I'm sure it can be tricky working with different lighting at different shows!

Thanks, Jane! It can be difficult with changing lighting, especially when it means changing the exposure on the fly.
