Gladys Knight @ the Fox Theatre -- 2008.07.13

Gladys Knight @ the Fox Theatre -- 2008.07.13 by Todd | ishootshows.com.
Just a snap at 14mm, which is still not not quite wide enough on full-frame for this grand venue. This was actually an above-the-head grab with the D3 and 14-24mm f/2.8.

Legendary soul singer Gladys Knight, performing at the Fabulous Fox Theatre, July 13, 2008. This was a sold out show at 6,000 attendees.

Hey Joel: Thanks! I knew I had to get a few snaps while they raised the house lights at the end of the performance, as there was a standing ovation.

Adam: If funds allow, just do it, you certainly won't be disappointed. The 14-24mm is a great hunk of glass. Which reminds me, I need to clean off it's huge front element. It has as huge dribble of what, at best, I can only assume is rock star spit at the outer edge.

Todd, you always grab this incredible light! Or should I say, snap incredible light. I recently got the 24-70mm f/2.8, my next lens will be either the 50mm f/1.4 or the massive front element lens (the 14-24mm). Pretty happy with the recent D300 purchase, and I'm not letting myself look at any Nikon full frame advertisements!!! And yes, I'm jealous of the performance that the D3 shows. Or can it be attributed to the photog?? hmmmmm.

Hey Robert, thanks very much. This shot was made at the following exposure:

ISO 1600
f/2.8
1/13

I have both the 50/1.4 and the 14-24mm and while the 50mm is really a nice low-light lens, the 14-24mm is just plain fun. Even with the 1.5x crop, I think 14mm would be quite nice on the D300, and the edge performance would be even better than it is on the D3, thanks to the sweet-spot crop.

Again, thanks for the kind words!

Hey Peter, thanks, it is a very nice venue. And they almost always have spotlights on the performers, which is always welcome!

This is the "Fabulous" Fox Theatre in St. Louis. The venue also hosts a lot of musicals and other Broadway fare, but they also have a fair number of concerts during the year, too.
