A critically endangered leatherback turtle hatchling (Dermochelys coriacea), makes its way to the sea after hatching. Trinidad and Tobago, W.I.
Hatchling sea turtles have a 1:1000 chance of making it to adulthood.
Coastal development, light pollution, accidental bycatch, and poaching
on nesting beaches continue to adversely affect both nesting females
and hatchlings, increasing mortality and decreasing their chances for
survival.
