Dr. Hartfiel is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Hartfiel of Ganado and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Willie J. Braun of Carmine and Mrs. Frieda Hartfiel of Frelsburg. Maternal great-grandparents are Dr. and Mrs. Edward J. Meister of Denver, Colorado, and Mrs. Julia Lillick of Wake Forest, North Carolina.
