The large version is really messy and his wrists don't look real somehow. How much photoshop was involved here?

on look at large size i agree, it is messy; and looks a bit odd; but i stand by my remark and my vote that much worse have made it into the safe.

it's a great pciture! the larger version does however unfortunately show blurriness and, what i think is over-sharpening(?)...

Cloning away some of the reflections would improve this shot. I like how you got his head back lited. Do you have anymore shots from the same scene?

I don't like the blue cast. Other than that I love this shot, even with the reflections. But the blue means

Joche: Shot loads. However this was all at ISO 1600 as the flash made too much mess when reflecting off the fog!! The problem is all the shots looked great on the camera LCD screen and I was really excited. But when uploaded to the computer most of the shots were too grainy or blurred.
Trying to catch a moving object; in this case a bubble being formed, in these dark foggy conditions is almost impossible in my opinion!! With my skill and equipment anyway!!

Wanaga: Fair enough!! What you dislike, i really love!! Different strokes, for different folks, I guess!!
La Fee Verte (95 months ago | reply)
i also love the blue; but i am a sucker for blue; about 70% of my favourites are blue.
_devocean (95 months ago | reply)
hmmm... looks like it was technically pretty friggin difficult... i can't be bothered to wait for the big size to download coz i'm on dial up speed, so i can't see the appartent blurriness there
the blue is a bit of a distraction but i think i will help it on its way to the safe anyway

i agree, cut the guy some slack. most of you ould probably not achieve a photo this good.
myself included of course.
tarotastic (95 months ago | reply)
No brush or blur tool was used in this. The trouser blur might be because he was shivering. It was damn cold!! The fog blowing off the lake probably accounts for some blur too!!
Hourman (95 months ago | reply)
there are some technical problems, but the picture goes beyond all of them. Unique.

I like this image a lot but the large version is a real mess. I would love to see it with minimal Photoshop and no blue cast.

Hourman gave me a delteme 6 tag, so Russel Reno, your tag should be a deleteme 6 and cecily yours should be a delteme 7!!

cecily7: A real mess?!! Well, if you could imagine some of the difficulties involved trying to shoot this pic, you might not be so harsh. I know how hard to please this group is, but I was hoping that some might realise the technicalities involved in a shot like this, and perhaps see past some of the imperfections!! A lot of what you think was done in photoshop is down to the fog blowing off the lake and the ISO 1600. The shutter speed was also pretty slow to catch the bubble being formed. The blue cast? My personal choice!!
La Fee Verte (95 months ago | reply)
i realise them; there are some awful, boring, technically shite shots in the safe. this deserves to be in there because its so much better than a lot of them. i browsed the safe once, expecting every photo to jump out at me...only a few did; and this did.
Superchou (95 months ago | reply)
I am really on the fence about this one. There are some elements that almost bug me but they are also the same elements that make this kinda unusual and mystical... gonna have to:

9-7 at the moment.
I must admit that it is kinda annoying that 1 delete is for the only reason of:
"Looks like something from Edward Scissorhands."
What is that supposed to mean?! I love that film!!
The other deleteme that bugs me is:
"Wow, that's a big condom! Texan size?"
What does that mean?!! It's cool to be funny in your put downs, but.... actually try and be funny.
La Fee Verte (95 months ago | reply)
i can see how it looks like a large jonny; but i dont get the texan reference.
maybe its funny in america... :/
Rentahamster (95 months ago | reply)
Hey now, this is a "cool" shot. ISO 1600, eh? Damn, that's a lot of compensation for this low light shot. It still came out pretty nice with not a lot of noise. It must have took a lot of settings adjustments to get this shot right in this situation.
The unorthodox duo-tone feeling of this shot gives it a lot of character - it captures the nature of the environment quite well.
Plus, of course, I am a fan of the bubbles.
