Dead-End

Black Magic

Update This image received an Honorable Mention at the 2011 International Photography Awards.

Just an in between shot just to let you know I'm still alive, more of California, my newer work, coming up soon.

It was a bad day. My new camera and lens are destroyed due to a sudden wind gust that smacked all of my gear to the ground: camera broken, lens broken. Damage: over 2,000 euro. It all happened in a time-frame of less than 10 seconds. So for the time being no more new work…
On top of that my cat died today, all of a sudden. He was a strong and healthy 1 year old cat, and he just dropped dead totally unexpected. It all happened in a time-frame of less than 10 seconds…
The irony of this all was that I named my cat Kenna, after my favorite photographer Michael Kenna. Some strange and invisible forces trying to stop me from photography, it seems…

Anyway, I'm gutted.

Really rotten luck Joel, I hope you get to replace your gear soon. I had to bury our cat last week so sympathy with you on that.

Oh and this is a fantastic shot! Lines and contrasts just brilliant. The seagulls add a nice touch. And i like the aircraft trail on the left, very unusual.

Very nice composition. I like the way it's hard see where the horizon and sky meet. The dark pier leading to the silhouette is excellent. Sorry you lost your gear and your poor cat. We can grit our teeth and replace equipment but losing a pet is tough.

Sorry about both of your losses, but if it's your passion - one (or even a few) letdowns shouldn't deter you from continuing. I know you've got a large following on Flickr. I'm a part of it.

    mAN, THAT5'S SOME BAD LUck.
    Sorry for your cat.
Here birds are dropping from the sky, it's the north magnetic field that is changing so drastically.
I told you about my damages as well, but thank God, my camera was intact.
    Gee Joel, that's sad.
On the bright side, they cannot take the artistry and knowledge from you.
Hope that you'll recuperate your losses soon, maybe it was a good sign, and you will get a new Canon top of the line.
    Best wishes.
