Old Mine Buildings Panorama

This area was originally the site of what was known as Yarnbury Mine's "High Grinding Mill". In 1825, the mill housed a water powered roller-crusher for dressing the lead ore. What you see here today are more modern remains from the late fifties - a plant installed by the Dales Chemical Company was built to recover discarded minerals from the old mine dumps.

The original miners discarded certain types of minerals, namely fluorspar and barytes, which were of no use to them but eventually became valuable in the 20th century. The Dales Chemical Company operated here from 1956 to 1964 before the easy surface supply of valuable old minerals dried up.
