(North American Species # 470) Short Eared Owl From Yesterday

(North American Species # 470) Short Eared Owl From Yesterday

Happened to see this SHORT-EARED OWL on the side of the road yesterday on my way to the Owl Wood of Amhurst Island (Ontario). He took off as soon as I stepped out of the car and didn't give me a chance for a still shot !

I was just about to blame myself for getting too close till I saw his/her mate a short distance away and I was relieved that it wasn't me that spooked him/her.

Too bad they both flew away in the opposite direction and didn't give me a chance for a closer shot !

The only new species (a lifer) that I managed to get last week in the Yucatan was this code 2 (uncommon) WHITE TAILED HAWK.

This hawk can be found anywhere from coastal Texas and the Rio Grande Valley to central Argentina as well as many Caribbean islands.(Wikipedia). But I was never able to see him until last week !

Thank you Bird God.

1st and 2nd images show how the snake turns the bird's head around and goes "beak first".

The main image shows the eyes of the snake as he continues to swallow his victim.

He then slowly pulls the bird to the branch above and then swollow the sapsucker horizontally.

...and disappeared into the thick bushes....another day in the jungle.
