I want my carrots

I want my carrots

My Sunday morning zoo trip with Heather: A giraffe at the Singapore Zoo, keenly awaiting its carrot treats. I shot this giraffe close-up with my 70-200mm lens on a 1.4x extender.

Interesting facts about giraffe:
1. They can sprint at 60 km/h (37 mp/h).
2. They are nearly invulnerable to predators like lions, hyenas and leopards.
3. Their tongues can be 50cm long!

Pelican

Pelican

My Sunday morning zoo trip with Heather: A pelican is sitting pretty around a man-made pool of the amphitheatre. The animal show has not started, so there's plenty of time to spare.

Up close and personal with my 70-200mm with 1.4x extender.

The White Tiger

The White Tiger

My Sunday morning zoo trip with Heather: This is perhaps the most photographed animal in the Singapore Zoo. I'm happy to capture these massive and majestic felines on the prowl today with my 70-200mm lens and 1.4x extender.

White tigers, also known as Bengal tigers, are rare animals that possess an amazing combination of awesome beauty and impressive power. They have blue eyes, a pink nose, and creamy white fur covered with brown stripes. White tiger males range in length between 2.7 and 3 metres. They weigh between 190 and 260kg on the average. Females are smaller, and range in length from 2.2 to 2.7 metres, weighing around 165kg. White tigers have extremely strong jaws and teeth, which are very helpful in catching their prey. They also have a very strong sense of smell, and sharp eyesight. (Source: Singapore Zoo website)

Heather wants to be a zoologist

Heather wants to be a zoologist

Heather likes animals and conservation. She wants to be a zoologist when she grows up. She's reading all that she can about animals, nature and conservation. Her knowledge about animals is simply amazing...and is probably more than an average adult.

We had a great Sunday at the zoo today - just Heather and me.
