Fairy Tale Cottage

Fairy Tale Cottage

Yes It's been long time, unfortunately life got in the way. In the end my wife prompted me to get back to Flickr with this shot of hers she's been pestering me about for only about two years. She says:

"First night that we arrived on our approach to where we were staying near Loch Tummel in the Highlands of Scotland we saw this cottage that looked like it was straight out of the pages of an illustrated fairy tale book - The brothers Grimm Hansel and Gretel in particular. As it was too dark to capture the photo then, I waited till the following day. Lo and behold there was smoke coming out of the chimney which only enhanced the ambience of the cottage."

Embroider Me!

Embroider Me!

This is the original photograph of mine that my mother based her painting of Skipton on the Leeds-Liverpool canal.

I feel the picture has peace and calmness that definitely reflects the area as I see it. Additionally, I think it would make a good embroidery subject were you so inclined!

Haircut 2000: Inflation?

Haircut 2000: Inflation?

I never read this anywhere else, but I always reckoned the name 'Haircut 100' came from the fact that a haircut in your common or garden standard barber's in the late 70's could still be had for a quid. Hence the display of services and prices would carry the legend: "Haircut £1.00". Nick Heyward and the boys observed this phenomena, and so their band was duly monikered

This common or garden barbers in Skipton, Yorkshire, completely unaware of my fine pearl of wisdom, were obviously influenced by the Haircut 100 band name when they chose to call their establishment Haircut 2000, no doubt after the new millennium. A kind of rare case of life imitating art, imitating life!

Haircut 2000 already sounds a bit creaky though. Reminds me of a musical instrument shop in my town once titled Sounds 70's - OK if your business last only 10 years, but what happens in 1980? Of course the Skipton Barbers only have to worry if they last beyond 2099. I hope they do, which reminds me, Prince - how's that 1999 song sitting with your royal purpleness these days?
