This is one of my favorites - a great shot of Paris taken at sunset from the roof of the Montparnasse Tower - the only skyscraper ever allowed to be built within the city of Paris itself. It is sometimes said, only half-jokingly, that the view from the top is the most beautiful in Paris, since it is the only place from which one cannot see the tower!
My wife and I were on vacation and our hotel was located in Montparnasse. One day we were taking a walk, exploring the surrounding area - we came across the tower and decided to go up to the top. The roof is a big open-air observation deck (and helipad) with great views of the city all around. This was the best, with the Eiffel Tower centered in front of the skyscrapers of La Defense in the background. By chance we were there just as the sun was setting, so I was able to get a few good shots before we left. We didn't make it back so I could take some photos during full daylight or at night - have to wait for the next trip to Paris, whenever that may be...

This is a truly beautiful capture! I have stayed near the Montparnasse tower before and its such a good landmark to help you get back to your hotel!

They have a new observation deck since a couple of weeks and last week was the official opening (but it was raining so it was a bit of a wet weekend) so you'll see it goes one storey higher than before and it's a rather nice deck!
