Shelf room

    by Tim Sidford.
Commissions very welcome...please message me here at flickr!

I wanted to make something I could actually display....most of my other miniature rooms are about four or five times bigger than this (same scale, but with more floorspace) and are rather cumbersome, ugly things that end up stacked on top of the wardrobe, so this was a conscious effort to make something small and decorative.

The chair is painted playmobil, but everything else made from scratch.

Well, no, I did not make the winkle....or the coins on the wall....and the painting is a photocopy...but the point is I tried not to rely too much on playmobil this time!

Looks great, it really fits nicely into the bookcase and the color tones help integrate it really well.

Thanks! It doesn't really show but the actual life-size shelves are also blue.

      Yes: mahvelous.
I have two thoughts: "so much better than a bookend" & "no excuse for not having a dolhouse now."

Tim, I have to apologize that I hadn't got to your photostream in a while. I just love this!!! What a cool idea!!!! Of course the books on the little shelves and the full sized shelves got my attention immediately. You have some nice books!

      That's really lovely, Tim.
Now, could you perhaps do a little doll's house to fit into the little bookshelves, with of course bookshelves inside it, perhaps with a liitle dollshouse that has..? Maybe not.

This is completely awesome. I want to do one of these. I don't have it in me to paint our Playmobil though.

    18. sweetington (18 months ago | reply)

Thanks. It was a long time before I could bring myself to paint my playmobil...it felt disloyal, somehow, but I figure it can always be washed off.

I always wondered what you're doing with them once they're finished. I only display (Playmobil) stuff in a way that it can easily be removed, and I know why. :D

Love some of the books there. The room is amazingly well done, it looks great!

Beautifully done, and a real inspiration. It's so frustrating to work so hard and then have no place to show it. I have one room hanging on a wall, one sitting on a counter, and even a litle Welsh cupboard on a shelf in my laundry closet. Now I am getting ready to start a garden - can't imagine where in my little condo I will put it! www.flickr.com/photos/39450859@N07/sets/72157 623722344090/

Wow. Very cool photo, and to think you made most of it yourself is double cool. It's beautiful, and fits perfectly in that bookshelf.

Okay, should I be getting worried? This photo has gone from 280 views to 12,696 in the space of five hours! Anyone else had this experience?...something must be wrong, and really want it fixed.

You're famous - learn to like it. :-)

It probably means you've been picked up by smoeone who's posted a link to it on a big forum - this should be obvious in your stats if you look at where your views are coming from.

It's on something called 'reddit', but even so this CAN'T be right...its gone up by 4,000 overnight....must be some techincal glitch...don't mind as long as it's not some sort of bug?

    34. joe with a camera (18 months ago | reply)

Aha... it probably is right, then - Reddit also picked up Lucy's trilobite cake picture, and rapidly accumulated a few thousand hits that way. I'm sure it'll die down soon... but the anonymity of the Sweetington Dynasty may be a thing of the past.

    35. dididumm (18 months ago | reply)

Congrats! I don't think this is a glitch. I had something similar happen (not with such crazy numbers, but the view count changed by the second), the photo wasn't even special or anything. Well, you deserve to become more popular, and all of us here will brag about knowing you "before". :D

How did I miss this ? ... It's just fantastic ... the perfect dwelling for a book-worm like me !

I love all the beautiful books and I like the fact that there's a doll house within the doll house . Oh , and those strong , hardy pillars on either side of the house look grand ! :)

Thanks for reassurance joe and didi! And yes, sure enough I am significantly less popular today! Although still a fair few views through Explore. I'm not surprised about the trilobite cake...it's fantastic: www.flickr.com/photos/27381147@N03/4891480915 / !!!
Thank you, Quercus, King of Pun. Btw, you are welcome to move in. The door on the left leads through to several other rooms, so you could still have a little privacy.

      Thank you for your comments.
