Mine were for a mystery rash -- most likely poison "something." I actually had to go on them again a couple of weeks later (for poison-sumac) and experienced some additional health problems because of the continued useage. :(

The taper is to prevent your adrenals going into a crisis. I can never understand why docs don't prescribe lower/moderate doses of steroids for inflammation, when lower doses DO work, but don't have as many side effects. They only ever seem to rx steroids in HIGH or LOW doses. What about the middle ground? Sigh...
Also, hydrocortisone is more bio identical, yet is not often prescribed. Pred and Dex are more likely to cause side effects also.
