Triax Elite Charts |
A little history first...
I got a pair of Nike+ shoes for my
birthday and started running again after
almost a year without a single workout.
I really enjoyed the runs and love the
Nike+ concept, but for some reason, I
tend to overexert myself when I run. I
remember back from my cycling days that
I would push my heart rate into the 190s
and just about kill myself through the
entire workout. That wasn't much fun,
but my personality won't let me enjoy
leisurely rides either. Anyway, after
just a few runs I realized that I needed
to start using a HRM again. I snagged a
Polar R400sd from the local REI and
started training. I really liked the
hardware, but the software is terrible.
It doesn't work on my Mac so I have to
run XP through Parallels. I'm willing
to do that, but there wasn't much of a
trade-off. The software is so basic
that it doesn't even begin to help with
training. It just shows you the amount
of time spent in each zone.
So, after a lot of research I found
that if you're a Mac user, you don't
have many options. The Nike Triax Elite
is your HRM. The watch itself looks
cool and has some nice features but the
UI is not nearly as intuitive as the
Polar.
I'm going to post periodic workouts
here. I've also started a group at www.flickr.com/groups/hrm/. It's a place where you can post your
HRM graphs to share with other runners,
cyclists, etc. and get insight and
encouragement. Think of it as your
worldwide accountability partner.
