Padding Compound by tikaro

Padding Compound

Kate found online and bought a bottle of padding compound, which you use to make tear-off notepads(!!!)

She's trying it out, making a pad of her quilting business cards. It looks super-cool!

Maybe I can make my big, sloppy stacks of self-adhesive airbrush tattoo stencils into neat, tidy books, so they won't blow all around!

Barley sack! by tikaro

Barley sack!

Kate saw that there's a _lot_ of really cool-looking German (malt?) sacks. Larry said "Oh, yeah, you want one? You want more? We go through about a hundred of these a month!"

Kate thinks maybe she'll make some tote or shopping bags. Coool!

Larry pouring the Barley by tikaro

Larry pouring the Barley

Iron Hill's head brewer Larry is pouring sacks of barley into the grinder. From there, it goes into the hopper, and then is augered to the front of the building and into the kettle.

On the kettle platform by tikaro

On the kettle platform

Being in Iron Hill's brewing room is a little bit like being on board a ship, with the ladders and the railings and the barrels.

Stirring the grog! ARRR! by tikaro

Stirring the grog! ARRR!

A friendly local microbrewery doesn't mind if you wander through the open door and ask "Hey, what are you guys doing today?"

A REALLY friendly local microbrewery lets you climb up on the ladder, stand on the platform, and look down into the hot kettle.

An AWESOME local microbrewery lets you stir the mash and make a pirate face, then takes a picture of you doing it with your own iPhone.

The fellows at Iron Hill are AWESOME, and showed us what they were doing. Today, they're cooking up Hefeweizen in the kettle.
