Prison Corridor

Prison Corridor by *Mark Pennington.
This is from a trip to Moundsville, WV, last fall. Aside from various sightseeing, the main reason for the trip was a visit to the former West Virginia State Penitentiary. This prison design was based on the prison at Joliet, although this one is about half the size. It held some of West Virginia's worst convicts from the time of the Civil War into the 1990s.

WOW, what a depressing image but such a wonderful shot. Well, I mean the thought of prison is depressing but you have captured the reality of lack of freedom here. Great work.

This is one of those cases when a photograph is better than a thousand words! I wonder what this one would look like in B&W...

Thank you, Luisa.

Thanks, Matilde! I appreciate the kind words. On the B&W - I tried it, and with my limited ability, I couldn't get it to look quite right. I'll have to try again, though, because I see potential there.

Thanks to you too, destinatio!

yep, I agree with Zen Cat... chilling, but well rendered. I've been a good boy, but when I get near these kinda places, I always expect someone to shout, "There he is! Get him!" arrgh. just paranoid, no doubt.

Wouldn't want to spend too much time in a place like this! A visit should be enough to scare anyone straight. That might be a good idea for "troubled" youth. Let them see this type of place. Might make them think. Thanks for the comment, Blaine!

Did you get a pic of "Old Sparky" the electric chair too?? I drive past every day and have yet to enter.

Great impact. Glad to be on this side of the pic.
