Twenty-five years ago this month, U2 relased their hugely successful album The Joshua Tree. With this record they became the first Irish group to top the Billboard Album and Single Charts, they won grammies and they became 'Rocks Hottest Ticket' according to the cover of Time Magazine. Growing up in bleak 1980s Ireland I already thought they were an inspiration: genuine Irish heroes to be admired for success they achieved while still living in Ireland and were a reminder that if you really want something in life you can get if you apply yourself, no matter what the obstacle.
Of course, when I bought this album back in 1987 it was on cassette tape, remember those? This CD is of more recent vintage but is heading the same way as the cassette I presume. However, it shocks me that it has been a quarter of a century already since I listened to this album for the first time.
