Thaumie
It occurs to me that it's been a long time since I posted a portrait instead of prims. Hello.

Planet Venk
I'm sure that here on Flickr, Stephen Venkman needs absolutely no introduction. Still, I just would like to say that of all the avatars I've met in SL, Venk is always there when a friend needs a hand or word of support and has been such an asset to our community as a whole. (Not to mention he's a seriously lovely photographer.)

Planet Miriel
(See the matching not-really-a-panorama here.)
So... I had planned to do some other planets first, but then found out that Miriel is closing shop, as well as her gorgeous sim, in order to pursue other things in world. As this was due to happen in the fairly near future, she got to cut to the front of the line.
This sim, named simply "Miriel," presented a unique problem for planet making - the best views of it are from the side, not the top. If you shoot in a circle from the middle, as I normally do, you miss those spellbinding cliffs of hers, and that simply won't do.
I had this brilliant idea that I could shoot along the edges, from the outside facing in, rather than the inside facing out, and then stitch them together that way. It was an experiment, and it totally failed, haha. The different perspectives make it too hard to match seams, for me OR the computer.
Plan B was to put them together into a little archipelago, so that one could see the various faces of the sim in a single image. I did this by hand. For a laugh I tried to feed it into the projection software anyway, but due to the way these things work, that was also a failed experiment.
In the end, I cheated and did this one with polar coordinates, which is why it's not quite as planety as they usually are. Still, I quite like the result.
Miriel has always been an inspiration to me, as she is one of the few people I know on the grid who tackles art nouveau style (my special favorite of all favorites) with panache. She made all the sculpts and textures on this sim, too, which is an admirable feat in and of itself.
Thanks, Miriel. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do next.

The Miriel Archipelago
(This image is pretty huge, so you might want to blow it up. See the matching planet here.)

Planet Monkeh
Monkeh Island is inhabited by my exceptionally wonderful and bratty friend Seren Dawes and her friend Remy. It's open for exploration, though, so you should go peek around.
