Much praise for The Gregory Brothers for their auto-tuned news. This was much harder than I thought it was going to be!

    I think the autotune/vocorder needs a melody to tune the vocal track to. A good start though.

    Some auto-tune programs allow you to grab individual notes or draw a line that the tuning will follow. Most seem to correct to a key within a certain range. Applying it to talking doesn't work quite as well. Even when you listen closely to the Gregory Brothers' auto-tuned news the news talkers seem extra musical mostly because of all the music added in.

    This piece is tuned to A#. It seems Maddow speaks around C/D-ish because tuning her talking to those keys (notes?) produced much less auto-tune distortion.

    Very interesting stuff. Katie Couric's voice seemed to be the best of the bunch...she must have been right on with her tone and pitch!
