My portable hard drive with the last 4 years of my photography crashed on Saturday morning. As it currently stands, I have lost all my pictures from almost anytime before this past weekend. I'm trying my best to salvage that drive, and trying my best to keep my spirits up, but I don't know if it'll happen.
While going through this dilemma, a friend texted me and asked if I wanted to go down to Tucson the next day to see and photograph the All Souls Procession. I thought about it. I could stay home and feel sorry for myself. Or I could theoretically start anew...while photographing everyone pretending to be dead.
I went.
And the evening was incredible.
This is my friend, applying her face paint (it became much more elaborate over the next several minutes). I joined her friends in a procession through Tucson, a giant Dia de los Muertos celebration if you will, culminating in a finale which included the lighting of a giant paper urn, suspended high up in the air and filled with prayers for the dead, submitted by people throughout the year in remembrance of their loved ones.
More pics to come. Hopefully I'll figure out a way to save the thousands of my other photographs. In the meantime, I'll be saving shots like this at least twice.
