This posturing is silent as it's not meant for dominance, just play. If you notice Tag is looking the most fierce with his mouth open, but he's leaning away -- lessening the threat display. At the same time Merc is making eye content and showing his teeth, but you see his front foot is up off the ground, unbalancing himself and lessening his threat display.

It's really amazing to watch canine body language. On the surface you would think it's about to be a battle... but take a moment to look closer and if you know what to look for, all the right signals, say it's time for play. :-)

This is a great shot! It reminds me of when our 1st poodle would beat up a 100 lb rottie every weekend. The rottie was in love with her, but she was playing hard to get. You should look at NoiseNinja plug in for photoshop and crop to the heads.
