TTC Door Update - I guess the doors are the only important part
![]() When the doors at St. Clair got fixed so soon after the article about my photo project appeared on Torontoist.com, in the National Post, and (ugh) CFRB, I figured it was just a coincidence, seeing as how I'd received a
letter from Bruno Papa, an Executive Communications Representative at the TTC, saying that "The elevators and automatic doors are scheduled to be in service in June 2007." There were also signs up to that effect. Since the doors were fixed on June 15th - right smack dab in the middle of the month - it appeared that the TTC had just hit its stated target and not sped things up in reaction to any pressure I might have attracted. My silly little victory won, I didn’t really care that June came and went without the elevators going into operation. But it did seem odd, especially considering I’d heard from Mark Medley, who wrote the Post article, that the TTC had said they couldn’t activate the doors until the elevators were also ready for activation, so as not to mislead people who were relying on both (or something like that). Hmmmm. Then I noticed that they've recently taken a Sharpie to all the signs hanging in St. Clair and blacked out the "Late June" part of the estimated completion date. Hmmmm. Now I'm starting to wonder if they didn't fix the doors just to get me off their backs. It seems like it’s going to be a long time before the elevators are working. (I'm also tempted to black out a bit of the bottom of the 7 so the signs read "Estimated Completion Date: 200?") I bet Warren could get this whole thing sorted out. I guess the moral of the story, such as it is, is that the TTC sure acts more quickly when it knows people are paying attention. Commentsariehsinger
