Grande Arche

La Grande Arche de la Defense. Completed in 1989, the Great Arch marks the end of the 8km-long Axe Historique, which stretches in a straight line from the Louvre, through the Jardins des Tuileries and the Arc du Triomphe to La Defense. The Grande Arche was by no means the only proposal for this part of La Defense, and the nearby museum showcases the huge variety of designs drawn up for this part of Paris over the course of the 20th century.

It's obviously modelled on the River Hull tidal flood barrier.
