Earl

Earl by ~ Dave McCaskill ~.
Earl is stranger #1 in my 100 Strangers Project. Earl plays the saxophone on the street in downtown Indianapolis, a nice selection of the old staples, such as "Roll out the Barrel" and "When the Saints Come Marching In". He appreciated it when I told him that you can hear his music up to two blocks away, playing in the background, giving a human touch to the downtown hustle and bustle.

It is amazing
how much
something like a bit of good music
can change things for the better

I spent Christmas Day
serving food to those in need
and one volunteer sat down
at the piano and spontaneously
started playing show tunes and Christmas Carols
interweaving Gershwin and Noel Coward
with Auld Lang Syne and Silent Night
It really perked things up
