Monument Circle - take 2![]() ![]() This photo (and this version) has given me fits for the last couple of hours tonight.
When I processed the raw file through Lightroom, the Christmas lights on the trees and Monument look vivid when viewed at a reduced scale, but when zoomed to 100% they collapsed to desaturated, white points of light. Something weird with the way that Lightroom is processing bright colored points of light against a largely desaturated background in RAW files. I ended up processing this copy through Canon's own raw processing software (DPP) before importing into Lightroom as a TIFF file. That seemed to preserve the colors in the Christmas lights, even when viewed at 100%. The difference isn't apparent at reduced scales, but when viewed large, this DPP-processed copy and the Lightroom-only copy definitely show differences. Comments~ Dave McCaskill ~

Weird issue. Did you try boosting the Vibrance slider in the Develop module? That's a tough scene to render since it's so backlit, even if it's really cloudy and gloomy (don't you love Indiana in the winter?). I think this would be a good candidate for HDR.
