NASA Commander Chris Ferguson at Franklin Institute
The Franklin Institute, in partnership with the NASTAR Foundation, hosted a special evening with Philadelphia native and local hero - Astronaut Christopher Ferguson and Chief Astronomer at the Franklin Institute Derrick Pitts. The event, “Landing Atlantis – Exploring New Frontiers” delved into the past, present and future of Space with the goal of engaging the next generation of scientists, engineers and space explorers.
Ferguson was the commander of the last NASA Space Shuttle flight, Atlantis STS-135, which landed on July 21, 2011 to mark the end of NASA’s historic 30-year Space Shuttle program. Ferguson will discuss his involvement in the ‘next generation of spaceflight’ – a group of about a dozen commercial space companies whose mission is to make space travel a reality for everyone.
The NASTAR Foundation is a non-profit organization that fosters opportunities for people of all ages to experience the excitement of aerospace exploration.
