Nesting

Nesting

Laysan Albatross on a nest in the rough at the golf course in Princeville Kaua'i. Such beautiful creatures. We saw them practising their mating dance which is quite spectacular. I love the eye makeup they wear :-)

The Laysan Albatross, is a large seabird that ranges across the North Pacific. This small (for its family) two-tone gull-like albatross is the second most common seabird in the Hawaiian Islands, with an estimated population of 2.5 million birds, and is currently expanding (or possibly re-expanding) its range to new islands. The Laysan Albatross was first described as Diomedea immutabilis by Lionel Walter Rothschild, in 1893, based on a specimen from Laysan Island. Wikepidia

Beach girl sunset

Beach girl sunset

I just really liked the profile of this young girl with her great hair. Met her in the elevator the next day and she was about 12. Very cute.

Fluke

Fluke

Another of the shots from our Maui whale day. I wanted to go back out and bought an underwater camera as the whales are not bothered by the presence of the boat. The boat operators have to stay 150 yards away but the whales don't know that and may swim close so the operators have to cut the engines until there is enough distance. We went far from other boats and the operator put down a hydrophone so we could listen to the singing of the males. Quite phenomenal how loud and interesting it was to hear.
I was using a 70-200 2.8 lens with a 1.4 teleconverter on my D300 Nikon
