I heard all about the old Maxwell Street
market from my mom when I was a kid. She and
my dad went there in the 1950s. (She's got
some photos.) She took me to Chicago in 1967
and we found that the old market was already
moved by that time. I was very disappointed.

I'm still at a loss for words to describe
what kind of "market" this is. It's
somewhere between a police auction and a swap
meet.
I'd sure love to see her photos - hint
hint.
