Homeland Stupidity Closeup by TheeErin.

In its entire four year lifespan so far, the Department of Homeland Security has fallen far short of expectations, according to a Congressional audit of 8/17/2007.

someone should remove that pic if it was you i do not believe you would appreciate someone taken a pic of you in that regard. the polite thing to would have been to wake him up if he was really sleep and possibly not resting his eys for a moment. we are all guilty of that. besides you do not know what an individual is experiencing in his or her life. as a people we seek to assist one another not harm one another. THATS THE PROBLEM WIT AMERICA AND SO FORTH NO ONE KNOWS HOW TO MIND THERE OWN BUISNESS

@ DA_PIMPOF2003. True that I "do not know what an individual is experiencing in his or her life," and yes - politeness wasn't a factor in my decision to upload this photo.

Your platitudes on politeness ignore the fact that ninety countries lost citizens on 9/11.

Nobody - not the other snickering passengers, the miscellaneous dopey agents and not even the Chicago Police Officer that passed by on the right stopped me from snapping away.

The same week that I took this photo, there was a security snafu at Denver International Airport. The agents there failed to find faux liquid explosives packed in carry-on luggage. One undercover tester taped a fake IED to her leg and told the screener it was a bandage from surgery. Even though alarms sounded on the walk-through metal detector, the covert tester was able to bluff her way past the checkpoint, which is exactly what happened on 9/11 when four out of the five hijackers set off security alarms at Washington's Dulles Airport. Here's the Dulles security video.

The video clearly shows agents "minding their own business" as you say.

@ ofctiphani - should the covert tester in Denver have qualified this fuck-up in light of too many overtime hours worked?

What if a person like me had "bumped into" that zoned-out Denver security agent to help them perform their job better? That's just what one passenger did in March 2003 at the Hartford Connecticut airport after noticing a screener taking an afternoon nap by the X-ray machine. This "helpful" passenger triggered an evacuation of the entire terminal. Woo Hoo!

One month after Denver's public failure, USA Today ran a story on how the screeners at Los Angeles International Airport ALSO FAILED undercover tests - but much worse than Denver. This time, 75 PERCENT of the simulated explosives and bomb parts that covert testers planted got through the LAX screeners.

In January 2008, airport security was sucking as hard as ever. Here's a CNN video showing a mock bomb getting past past screeners in Tampa's International Airport. Ofctiphani - I'm sure that failed agent in the video is a "nice guy" and all.

He's probably just as nice a guy as the agents at Chicago’s O’Hare airport who somehow let undercover inspectors gain access to the interior of seven out of nine Embraer ERJ-145s - JUST LAST TUESDAY (8/19/2008).

Obviously, I didn't do anything wrong by taking this picture and posting it on flickr. The ongoing airport security theater of the absurd is what's wrong.

Not me.

I understand the things u are saying but as far as the testing goes...u gotta realize they tailor those tests for failure. yes some people are just thagt good and pass...but they are made so that people fail...it like training..and when u fail..they go over whagt they couldve done right and what they did wrong. and the seven planes that the inspector got into had nothing to do with tsa failing anything. its not our job to secure parked planes...its the airlines. and the inspector works for tsa. yea he was wrong for sleeping...but you don't know the whole story. once again..fake ass paparazzi!

Cleary ma'am the issues of "mind your business" is not a needed response. As citizens of America, it is our duty as individuals to uphold the mission values of America. Thus, we are pledged with a certain level responsibility. Privacy and so fourth are no longer respected in America. We have become a country of invasion and "bullying.” this is to say that the aforementioned countries of distress DID NOT suffer mayhem due to the inability of America to successfully watch them but THE COUNTRIES OWN INABILITY to maintain their citizens and exercise proper governmental procedures to govern themselves. FYI ma'am countries are losing citizens on a consistent basis as we speak but I can assure you it’s not because of ONE INDIVIDUAL sitting in a chair of non- warring authority whom you allegedly claim to be sleep.

@ DA_PIMPOF2003

Are you really trying to sell me the idea that the responsibility for the 9/11 deaths of citizens from "aforementioned countries of distress" rests with each victim's country of origin? I'm not sure if you are talking about the hijackers or what. But anyway, if that's the case, the United States would be responsible for its own 9/11 victims too. By your logic, the U.S. would have to admit blame for its blatant security failure on that day or as you so well put it, "an inability to exercise proper governmental procedures."

The U.S. security flaw happened in part because a few dozen American airport security employees engaged in variations of "sitting in a chair of non-warring authority" instead of doing their jobs. That is what the 19 hijackers so easily took advantage of.

iI think the security were doing their job...at least some. but things that are prohibited now...were not prohibited them. they took over the planes with box cutters...it was perfectly okay to take box cutters then. the handwanding procedure was different at that that time too.

In my past experiences of sleeping on or off the job, I've never been able to keep my legs strecthed out as I see in the photo. Look at his on the left, can someone sleep sitting up and have their legs not collapse?
