The Chicago Transit Authority. I hate you.

The Chicago Transit Authority. I hate you. by TheeErin.
Ron Huberman can suck my “alternative travel choices." My petite 6.5 mile commute already takes 55 minutes.

On one hand, I think it sucks for our already vehicle crowded sreets and for people on stretched budgets that cannot afford the high prices and rents close to their jobs. On the other hand, I hate paying so many taxes so that they can support a poorly planned system that I don't use. The whole damn system needs an enema.

Would you use it if it were available, convenient, cheap, fast etc?

I wonder if they will still try to push the "chicago card" once the fares increase?

Don't blame RH-- Blame the bullshit corrupt chicago democratic party machine for this mess. IL dems control EVERY SINGLE BRANCH of state gov't right now and our transit system is going to hell. As a proud lifelong lib, I never thought I'd see the day when I'd say "the system worked better when the IL GOP kept the chicago Dems in check". I hope Daley, Madigan, BLAH-goy-a-bitch and the rest of those assholes suffer in the next election....alas, I'm sure they won't because the dead will come out to vote like they always do.

In terms of blameworthiness, I tend point to the CTA itself based on past evidence. For example, remember the "Bemont Avenue" typo printed on 3,000 Wrong Maps last August?

The person responsible for the $75,000 fuck-up was a CTA employee named Charles F. Arndt.

He was fired in September 2006 and then for unknown reasons, REHIRED as manager of signage this past July.

Is CF Arndt working for FREE? 'Cause he should be. That's about his salary, methinks. And all those crack-smoking former employees with enough pension to support six people should come back and work for free every other day, including Sundays. Of course, that's just my opinion. And we all know in Chicago, that counts for the cost of a tall coffee at Starbucks -- about a buck and a half.

But here in Santa Monica, California, I can do 5.5 miles (up and down hill) in 25 minutes. Even in the afternoon when I'm completely crushed from school i still get home in half an hour, most up hill. However, yes the problems with public transportation is everywhere. Especially the MTA in Los Angeles, they want to expand two of their subway lines, costing about 8 billion dollars.

I don't believe - not for one second - that L.A. needs 8 billion dollars to expand two subway lines. Come on! NASA's annual budget is something like $16.8 billion.

If journalists would get off their fat asses and do some real work, I bet they'd uncover a situation in mass transit similar to the Pentagon's "prime vendor program" run by the Defense Logistics Agency.

Yay - $434.00 hammers and $600.00 toilet seat covers at the Pentagon.

Around here, journalists seem more interested in Huberman's work-out routine than the reasons behind Illinois' tight-wad behavior.

Well, the only reason the press is interested in Huberman's workout is because he doesn't look like a politician in Chicago -- you know, interested in not doing any real work, and eating Chicago style dogs for breakfast, lunch, and supper, with Polish for Sunday dinner. But hey, that's just me.

It's not the CTA's fault the state legislature doesn't care about transit in Chicago. Blame the jerkstore downstates who are holding CTA funding hostage for millions in pork the state doesn't have.

Oh I do blame the down-staters along with the CTA brass.

The Amalgamated Transit Union was planning a 1 day sickout, and Tzar Huberman should have supported this action. Instead he announced that "any job action at the CTA is illegal."

Whose side is he on? Don't Chicago Transit Agency workers deserve health insurance coverage?

Within a year, they'll be crying poor again. Putting any sort of faith in CTA management is like trusting a meth head.
