When I sketched this with my fountain pen, I was wondering how to ever paint this since the building is blue and I thought if I paint it blue too, the building might look artificial. It took me several days before I could add watercolor wash to this sketch. I remembered sketching this with Paul on a beautiful morning along with other sketchers. Paul painted on location and I thought he did it pretty well.
The color palettes I eventually used for this are Ultrtamarine for the building, cobalt and cerulean blues for the sky, Rose Violet for the awning and mix of these colors to make my purplish grays... I used viridian and with a touch of cobalt blue for the greens beside the mosque. I toned down the green for the plants on the bottom left so it does not fight attention with the purple. I hope I deliver the results well.
