ipad

For those of you that know me, you'll be surprised to know I purchased an iPad. It was a total impulse buy because I got a good deal on it. After playing with it for a couple weeks, I realized I had no use for it as it's basically just a gimped-down computer. Thus I sold it to a friend. Maybe in the future when they are more than just a consumer device I'll pick one up again. For now though, it's just a shiny toy.

Tim has one, got it for Christmas and it has been awesome for him. His office is PC-only and he's not allowed to check personal email, FB, etc. on his work laptop. Makes it tricky when he's on the road for 4 weeks at a time. Now he can actually have "downtime" online at night in his hotel without setting off all the corporate alarms. Would stink to carry two laptops, so this fits his situation perfectly. I still maintain that they are fantastic for the right audience. Shocked you gave it a go! Not so shocked you sold it. ;)

I do agree it works well in certain circumstances. However it's just not right for me. Maybe it's because I have a nice shiny new MacBook Pro and a phone that do everything I need. I believe if I were still rockin' my old PowerBook (the one I bought while I was still working at DD), I would use it a lot more since the iPad can actually play web videos.

I'll pick one up again when they have a Linux version that allows me to hack into some corporate mainframe like in the new Tron movie :)
