What's all this about a grid?

What's the minimum over built up areas there? Here I think it's 1500 ft.

It's 1000ft over a built up area, but over downtown Victoria they've got a "noise abatement area" restriction of 2000ft (although, the noise of traffic and construction is much more noticeable than my Cessna 172!)

Here is some info on the grid project. It's pretty fun, a section (grid) of the city is mapped out every month, and photographers capture as much of that area as possible. It's a fun way to document all aspects of a city, and discover things you haven't seen yet. You can see more here:

Take a look at Cormorant Street (left and down a block on the east side of Douglas) For those who didn't know Cormorant Street went through to Store Street before the Centennial Square Project in the early 1960's changed the street grid and extended Pandora Street.
It would be interesting to see a photograph before the change from the same angle.

Very intersesting glenalan54! I didn't know that was the reason for Pandora's curve.

Hi bugs,

An aside: the curve at Pandora was approved by City Hall for the new Century Hotel which held a three day gala opening in November 1965.
The slogan for the Century was "The Inn on Centenial Square" and the new hotel - it actually was a renovation of the Westholm Hotel built in 1911 - had an Arabian theme. I am writing an article about the history of the Century Inn titled, Arabian Chic: A History of the Century Hotel 1965-1984.
It's photographs like this that make history come alive.
