Twenty seconds till the last call
"It's twenty seconds till the last call
You're going "hey hey hey hey hey hey"
Lie down you know it's easy
Like we did it over summer long"
1901 - Phoenix
Wow. Holy shit. Wow. Me and three friends went to the Orpheum to go see Phoenix (with You Say Party! We Say Die! opening). We all expected it to be a good concert, but I was completely blown away. I know it's cliche, but it really was a once in a lifetime experience.
The show started out quiet, the place was felt pretty empty for the opening band. However, You Say Party! We Say Die! was still impressive. When Phoenix got on stage though, the place was electric. The kicked off the concert with Lisztomania and soon enough, everybody started to crowd to the front of the stage (we mannaged to squeeze our way fairly close to the front of the stage). The concert was incredible; really loud, the band was really kicking ass, and everybody was dancing and having a good time. The band played a lot of songs from Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, but some stuff off of their older albums as well (they played Run Run Run which is one of my favourite songs, so that kicked ass). It was a good balance of songs.
During the encore, a few guys rushed the stage, climbed on and started dancing. A few more people joined, and soon there were about 15 people on stage. Security managed to push a few people off the stage, but before you knew it, there were 50 more on stage. And more. And more. People on stage started hoisting up other people. By the end of it, me and my friends were clambering up to dance with about 200 people on stage with Phoenix (in the picture you can see a couple members of the band). Yeah, I know. Hell yeah.
Eventually security just gave up and stood around protecting the band members. After they played what would be their pentultimate song of the night, everybody in the Orpheum started chanting "1901! 1901!" So, wouldn't you know it, they played 1901. Everybody was dancing, some were singing into the mic with Thomas Mars. Wow, holy shit. I can't even articulate how awesome that was.
Phoenix kicking ass + stage rushing + spontaneous dance party with 200 people on stage = one of the best nights of my life.
My god, that night literally restored my faith in humanity.
