Perspective.

the_wing_brigade taking the shot "The Furnace Glows Again".
The moon. I would have liked to line it up in the hole, but with the shot being 10 minutes and the moon moving to the left, I'm glad I didn't.
The sister wall to the one tourist_on_earth has dubbed "Lighthouse".

Or in black and white?
The shot "When Death came to town" was taken just round the corner.

Bronica SQi 80/2.8, Konica Minolta Centuria Super 100 Expired 04/2008, f2.8@10 minutes, EV1.

Ever since I found Zeb Andrews stream I've been constantly mesmerized by both his shots, and his dedication to, St. Johns bridge.

For months now I have almost lusted after something, a subject, that could be suitabel for me to put together a body of work over 12 months or so that could eventually end up as an exhibition. Knowing that it had to be local made it even harder for me. Where was I going to find something as photogenic as that awesome bridge in Oregon?

Well, this is it. Lithgow Blast Furnace. So far I've spent two freezing nights up there, with the last time consuming around 8 hours only to result in 3 photos on an otherwise failed roll (could be user error, could be the camera. I think the former...).

Anyway. After two rolls I think I have found it. My bridge. Over the next 18 months as I complete my Master of Education, this will be my secondary focus.

I wanted a starter picture to show the entirety, though even this doesn't do it justice. I hope to get up there in the near future with the 40mm for the Bronica to capture the entire location, though for now, I can use this to add notes as to the various features.

Oh, and while the horizon looks slightly crooked, I'm pretty sure it's the building. When things blow up (will add some history as I go along), they generally warp a little :D

(One more thing, I don't know a whole lot about correction filters and I don't quite understand what I've read. Should I be using a blue filter here? The grass while dry, was nowhere near that orange. Perhaps some tungsten film? [Hard to get, but perhaps the results will outweigh the cost?] Maybe someone can leave me the code to the filter [screw in type] I need.)

I am really looking forward to seeing this series develop.

Is there street lighting nearby? That would probably explain the orange grass and tungsten film would probably sort that out.

You don't hate it? :D

Yeah the location has so much potential.

Street lighting just out of the shot. So for tungsten a blue filter will fix it? Maybe I should just get some film...

It's kind of surprising that after 10 minutes the stars didn't show up even more.

I love light :D

Sounds like a fantastic project, I'm sure you will get a lot out of it and have a lot to share with the rest of us.

This photo is quite cool. I like the combination of the ruins and the stars falling from the sky. I think the colors kind of add to the apocalyptic feeling.

Excellent Tam! I look forward to seeing how this project turns out for you. It looks like a fascinating place to shoot, and I agree, having one place to concentrate on over a long period of time really teaches you about perspective and seeing, and experimenting, and all that jazz. ;-)

Try an 80A filter by the way. They are a deep blue filter generally used to correct tungsten light. Personally I would try color correction in Photoshop a bit more, but if you want to try and do as much in camera as you can, this is the filter I would start with. You will lose about 2 stops of exposure though in the process. There is also an 80B filter, which I cannot remember precisely if that is a lighter or darker blue.

Good luck Tam! I hope you get some interesting shots out of this, I bet you will.

Looking at this picture just confirmed why I need to keep my Bronica, tempting to think otherwise when A Nikon D700 or D3 is calling you. Superb shot. I have to fav this one.

Here's hoping I can find my bridge soon.
