interestingly the shrubs along the valley are distinctively 'pruned'.
My fellow walker, a local resident, suggested that maybe the park's managers might control the growth of the bush, in order to facilitate viability. Also this could have been the work of the local farmers (which co-manage the park) for the same reason.
I also see another point of interaction: people are very keen on the spring growth of this plant, being a fantastic seasonal meal. They would regularly trim the sprouting branches at this time of the year, living behind stumps.
The bush would then grow as a collection of 'stumps', this image shows past years growth.
