Asnco Shur-Flash 6x9 Box Camera With Modern Flash

Asnco Shur-Flash 6x9 Box Camera With Modern Flash

This is a shot from my test roll after adjusting the flash sync to be used with a modern electronic flash.
There's really no reason at all for me to use an old box camera for indoor flash photographs except that I love old box cameras )) This Ansco Shur-Flash is no exception either. I really love the eye level view finder! Without my bifocals on, it's really tough for me to compose using the postage stamp size viewfinders of the BHF, and this eye level finder is easy on my eyes.

Here's a frame off the test roll after adjusting the flash sync timing of my BHF. All the fiddling & figuring paid off with nice uniform full frame illumination. For this experiment I shot the HP5+ at box speed and had my Sunpak cranked since the BHF has a fixed aperture and shutter speed.

Franken BHF

Franken BHF

Recently I modified an original BHF flash gun so I could mount a small electronic flash. Part of that adventure saw me adjusting the flash sync timing to work with modern electronic flash units. In theory it was all good. All that was needed was to actually put it to the test.
Recently there have been some unexplainable and strange things happening around my home, so I decided to spend some time in one of the local cemeteries under the light of a full moon. Of course being outdoors at dark in such a vast space I knew the little flash wouldn't work, so here is Franken'BHF Mod-2! A very temporary flash setup so I can use this powerful unit.
The good news is that it all worked quite well, which makes me wonder, what can't a Kodak BHF do?
