Bison Are Dangerous - Keep Your Distance

Bison Are Dangerous - Keep Your Distance by that owl.
©Lela Bouse-McCracken ::: Yes, all the signs told me how dangerous the bison are and to keep my distance. So I did....I shot from the auto with a window beanbag. :-)

I truly did not think you'd go this soon, did you go in from the Foraker side, and try our luck at the horse herds
Something makes me supremely jealous, seriously

I'm also amazed that you go on excursion and able to post just w/in hours, it takes us 2 hours to get to Tulsa, then I'm usually so particular , it takes me 2 days to go through them.

Thanks everyone! It was an amazing day to say the least. We didn't know if we'd even get to see ANY of the herd - we saw hundreds and they were right along the road. It was incredible.....

mveaches: No, we skipped the Foraker side.....we passed that road on the way to Pawhuska, thinking we'd come back out that way. However, since so much of the herd was right along the road through the preserve, we back-tracked and went back to Pawhuska. I had no idea there were that many bison in the preserve. I can't wait to visit in the Spring when the grass is green and there are wild flowers. :-)

Thanks so much, again, everyone! It was such an amazing day.
Amazing, that is, if you love acres and acres of wide open
grasslands with no fences...and roaming bison. Those of you who prefer
the city might not find it quite so "amazing." ;-)

Hi Lela. I just spotted this gorgeous shot next to your new elk breakfast picture in the "Wildlife" set. I love it. And you shot it eleven days before I shot this one www.flickr.com/photos/timkeller/2207648875/ and the next in my photostream from that. Yours is the prettier shot, thanks to the grasses and golden light, which is transcendent.

Hi Tim.
That's pretty cool that we shot them so close to the same time. I'd love to go back over to the tallgrass prairie and shoot these in the snow. It's about a an hour drive from me, but very doable - if the roads are clear. ;-)
Thanks for the kind words.
