Anyone who doesn't find a tesla coil fascinating is just plain boring.

Have you seen the Jim Jarmuosh film called Coffee and Cigarettes? It's a mostly dialogue/cameo film but it has some interesting ideas and scenes. My favourite is the scene with Megan and Jack White of the White Stripes. Jack brings out a tesla coil he built at home and starts it up right in the restaurant. You'd probably love it considering how many of these contraptions you have posted on your stream.

I havent seen it. I would love to though. Mostly TCs are used in movies for special effects. Like The Terminator. Ive never seen a TC in a movie, used alone.
Im glad you find them facinating also. Very few do.

I saw a similiar tesla coil destroy itself in a Survival Research Laboratories video. From memory it was on pavement, and the arc connected with the electronics stored below. I can't tell with your images of the assembled unit, but you might try to insulate that stuff at the bottom or be pretty damn careful about the path that arc might take. To keep the fun alive that is :) Oh, and consider moving the truck next time for a better photo. The dusk light really worked here to show the arc and also the device. Thanks for sharing!

Thak you all for the comments. I will try to answer some questions.
The TC is wired straight in the breaker that provides 220v 150a. Catches grass on fire ! RF grounded through 3 interconnected copper ground rods, that are driven 5 ft into the ground. Its just arcing to the ground, no metal pipes or anything.

amazing! :)

one nit to pick on the units involved: 30 seconds at 15 kW would use 450,000 joules (since a watt is 1 joule/sec) ..

or, in utility company billing terms: 1/8 of a kilowatt hour

Walt K  Pro User  says:

Very impressive!!
I agree with Larcher's assessment of the power consumption. If run continuously at 15,000 watts for one hour, you would use 15 kilowatt-hours of electricity and at a typical rate of about 10 cents per kilowatt-hour, the cost would be $1.50 per hour. In that respect it is rather inexpensive entertainment, once you have the TC built.
Absolutely awesome picture!!

Is there a lot of current in these lightning-like arcs?

Is it possible to build a tesla coil with a low current output, so that the sparks are pretty to look at, but where the sparks would be relatively harmless if you contact them with your fingers?

Does your tesla coil interfere with your neighboor's radios, TVs, computers, or other household electronic devices?

Thanks

puffyfluff says:

Actually, they are quite common. I have built two: a very small one that made one foot sparks, and a 22. kva tesla coil before. It is very low current, so low that the voltage is 1,500,000 volts. That means I can let it flow through me, and I hardly feel a thing! It is AWESOME! I will upload a pic soon.
