Langar, GBAO, Tajikistan

My hosts in this corner of Tajikistan, at the mouth of the famed Wakhan corridor which stretches behind them, through Afghanistan to China and Pakistan. Both Soviet-trained PhDs from an era when everything was imported and subsidized to this corner of the erstwhile Soviet empire, they now teach in the village school and manage their own vegetable garden. Such a meagre living is practically a necessity in this now remote but gorgeous place.
