Planet Houston, Space City

Planet Houston, Space City by telwink.
This is a stereogrphic projection of the Houston skyline, taken from the Sabie Street Overpass.

Best viewed as an interactive 360 degree flash movie!

This was taken as a 360 degree equirectangular panorama using a Nodal Ninja panoramic tripod head, and a Tokina 10-17mm lens.

6 photos around @ 60 degrees between shots, plus 1 Zenith & 1 Nadir
Stitched in PTGui Pro 8.2.2
Color/curve/sharpness adjustments in Photoshop

Process used for creating little planet:
- Load Equirectangular image into Photoshop
- Image > Adjust > Size --- match height to width without constraining proportions
- Rotate image 180 degrees
- Filter > Distort > Polar Coordinates (Rectangular to Polar option selected)

Here's a more normal crop from the scene. It was a very beautiful night!

Had fun finding the camera tripod shadow in the 360. That is a crazy fun image to interact with.

HAHA great find, Laurie. I feel like there's *something* I always miss with these things. Which is partly a shame, for how much time I spent getting the tripod out of this particular shot. But on the other hand, it keeps things fun like you said =]

I was going to be like, "Dude, you didn't remove the power line?', but it actually looks kinda cool in the little planet projection.

Nice work, Mr. 360.

nip2655 - thanks a lot, man! Yeah I thought about removing it, but after I saw it in the stereographic it was too nifty to take out. As for Mr. 360, on the contrary, good sir.

John - Thanks a lot!!!! I don't know about all that - I really appreciate the praise though. It was great just to get out and have another crack at the ol' hobby. Haha, I'm half kidding. I still enjoy it, but I had a month+ there that I wasn't shooting much. This was a fun project to sort of kick it off again (hopefully!)

Mark - we'll have to do that some time!

baldheretic - Thanks a lot! Yeah man it's a great piece of equipment, especially if you already own a fisheye. They are great for all kinds of creative work, not just 360s. A lot of my standard panoramas are shot with it. I appreciate the comments/compliments this evening!
