My SAS galley cart: As found at an aircraft scrapyard

Talk about love at first sight; this is exactly what I saw. My bar cart came from Aviation Warehouse, in El Mirage, Calif. After I got it home, cleaned it up, and built some shelves, it looked like this.

I am actually going to be back in Cali for a few days and would love to go to the AW over the weekend. I was hoping you could help me out, do you need to make an appointment to get in? Are they open in during weekend? Any other tips?

AW is tons of fun to visit, but yes, you'd be wise to call ahead to make arrangments. The owner's name is Mark Thompson, and he's a very reasonable businessman-- which means he's much nicer if you make it clear you intend to spend money, and then follow through on that. So pick what you might want to buy, call ahead, talk to Mark, and he'll probably let you wander the lot to find your item.

One thing to know: AW isn't cheap. Hollywood film studios are AW's biggest customers, so in effect you're competing with whatever Mark thinks some studio prop wrangler might pay for the same item. Some things he won't sell at all, for the same reason. For example, a friend of mine wanted to buy this, but it's potential future value (for use in a 1970s-era film) meant that Mark didn't want to part with it.
