The Pink Tonka Jig

    Newer Older

Perhaps you remember pink Hello Kitty Tonka that appeared here not long ago? That one was actually a prototype, painted with Krylon. But because so many of our friends have recently had baby girls, I wanted to create an entire edition of pink Tonkas, and I wanted the paint to be hearty enough for the wee ones to actually play with the trucks. So for that, I turned to my friend Leo at Unibody Collision Repair, at 1655 Folsom Street in San Francisco.

Leo is the official auto body service provider for all Telstar Logistics vehicles, so he's used to my strange requests. He said he'd paint the trucks when he had some spare time.

At last he got around to it. And here's how he did it. Behold, Leo's pink Tonka painting jig! Pretty slick, eh?

Yes, clearly. Other irons in the fire, however. So I plan to open source the technique.
