SFO

I think this is a klm airplane
Original mid-1950's terminal building and control tower. (Period photo here.) Later used as the International Terminal; currently empty and unused. From a development standpoint, however, everything else at SFO radiated out from here.

The old international terminal in the foreground looks pretty lonely.

Been there for 3 visits to my son. Very good connection: Amsterdam (20 min from my place) - San Francisco in one go. Long flight though! About 13 hours.

It has a beauty and symmetry that I've never been able to appreciate when my flight gets delayed 15 minutes at a time for four hours.

Great shot - looks like something out of Star Wars!
Was this taken from the Cessna?
If so then so much for checking pax's shoes.....
Or is that an F16 coming in at 6 o'clock high....

I love flying Virgin America. It flies out of the International Terminal, never has a line for check in and you can make a play list out of thousands of songs and pass out in the mood lit ambiance. Also, there's a pretty good bar/restaurant in the International Terminal, Firewood Cafe.

Wowwwww, SFO is a huge airport . . . Weren't there plans to redo the runways there so there would be less delays ? ?

Telstar Logistics  Pro User  says:

Yes, but adding new runways would have required filling in some of San Francosco Bay, so the plans were dropped. Delays have become somewhat less of a problem at SFO, largely through improvements in air traffic control procedures and technology.

Telstar Logistics: I see . . . I guess this will give them some breathing room for awhile . . . Have folks been using BART a lot lately to get out to the Airport vs. driving ? ? ?
