Ancient and Medieval art used symbols to identify persons in pictures to the illiterate viewers (which included many of the nobility, not just peasants). Examples include 3 bags of money with St. Matthew (a tax collector), two crossed keys for St. Peter or an Owl with the goddess Minerva.

This artist has adopted similar devices; the penguin symbol of the Linux operating system. The "On" symbol as Steve Jobs halo (plus the iphone of course) and the Windows logo behind Gates.

      Very clever.

I think the Ballmer "cherubim" should have been depicted holding (throwing?) a chair...um, I mean, a heavenly throne.
