Psychotic Skies!

    Newer Older

This one is for Pandiyan & Skyburst [Steve].....in anticipation...
    LARGE view is recommended.

What a gift this shot was, just waiting for me to come along and take it on my way home. This was a Jay..beautiful but fearsome birds, this one appropriately captured against a backdrop of a beautiful but ominous sky. Question is, where does the Jay end and the tree begin?

It's definately a good photo. Still I think it could have been a true winner if you had change the angle a bit to add some drama to the 'psychotic skies'.
      It's a close call...

Wow, what comes around goes around.... I commented on that photo 2 months ago. But that was outside the DMU Sunscapes group.
I stand for the comment I made above. It's a great photo.
      However.
(there is bound to be a 'However' with such a long prologue, isn't there...?)
There is too little sun for me. For all reflection arguments we could now start, this is a shot about evening (i.e. post-sunset), about silhouettes, but really a sunscape anymore.
      I'll have to vote

first of all i`d`ve liked to see more brightness and color here. it is a fantastic landscape though. but you could`ve explored more the details by uppering the brightness bar. also, the tree is clearly the orignal theme of the picture because it is imponently centered in the picture, which is a mistake. it certainly has a little bit if "zing" to it, but it`s not a winner.

I find the sky rather pedestrian. While the tree is interesting, the jay is too easily lost. I'd like it more with a tighter crop to see more of the jay. I'd also crop out some or all of the foreground black.

Argh. Lone tree trope with Hartlepool on fire sodium enhancement.

      BDDDDD Thankyou!!!!!

Save 8 Delete 10 over almost four weeks and I'm finally out of here, I thought it would never happen!

Interesting testing ground this one, thanks for all perspectives and detailed comments. Nepenthes has cracked it I think - this was never intended as a skyscape - it was always about the tree silhouette and marginally the bird. If I had my time over again I would revist the lighting for sure in post procesing, but out there - it was practically night-time!

This was easily the most popular image of my images in the Bristol flickL exhibition and even got a very positive mention as part of the published exhibition review - So I'll still stroke it and love it! :)

I'm taking it out now to see what is left of the sunshine and the spring blossom - when I put it in Santa had barely taken his shoes off and the trees were bare, so it'll be a nasty shock! ;-)

You need to do a square crop. This looked amazing when viewed as a square thumb.
