I haven't had any time to really shoot this year but I did want to wish all the flickr friends out there a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Keep the faith and much peace, hope and love to everybody out there :)

A bland sky and restless waters got under control by way of long exposure via the "Big Stopper" by Lee filters. It has easily become one of my favorite filters!! This was taken along 17 Mile Drive between Pt. Joe and China Rock. In the late 1800's Chinese fishermen made their homes amongst the rocks. The rocky shoreline has also taken some boats. Ships that have wrecked here include the iron-hulled St. Paul which crashed on a foggy night in 1896, then hung onto the rocks for 3 months before sinking - and the steamer Celia who got lost in the fog and wrecked in 1906. Both crews and the St. Paul's livestock cargo were rescued, but the Celia's load of lumber was lost.
My apologies for not being here as frequently as before... life has gotten busy; in a good way :)

Under the Canopy of the Bell

Under the Canopy of the Bell

I've always imagined shooting the Korean Bell of Friendship in it's entirety in one single shot for years. It has always eluded me for whatever reason; dynamic range too great etc etc... I'll probably have to use lights some day if the park allows me :)
This morning was no different. Imagination got the best of me as I was setting up my shot. Failure after failure. Then I looked underneath the canopy. The range seemed reasonable so I gave it a try. I sat there for about 10 minutes from this angle against a rapidly rising sun and shifty clouds...but I got it, at least a cornerpiece of the Bell. Finally.
It was tough. I stacked a 3RGND and a 3SGND together tilted right, moving up and down to eliminate the gradient. Six tries. Woohoo...
At least I had fun. After all, isn't that what this is all about?
