finally, a good pic of the iPod shuffle mod

finally, a good pic of the iPod shuffle mod by technicolorcavalry.
So here the beast is. Dave did an outstanding job. New photo, now with 30% less blur!

A brief description of the controls:
Up/Down: Volume up/down
Right/Left: Track forward/backward
Select: contains a 3-way switch for continuous play, shuffle play, and off
Start: contains a switch for hold
A Button: play/pause
B Button: absolutely nothing!

The only external parts of the controller that Dave modified were the start/select buttons, which now contain small switches instead of the original rubber buttons, and a cut on the right side of the controller for the USB port. We chose to place a female USB port in there.

This thing looks great, and works beautifully - I get loads of questions about it on the street from all sorts of people.

wow, that is just amazing. I think that you could make a million-billion-gigillion dollars off that idea.

you could walk down the street pretending to be playing with it, and ultimately be playing nothing! you'd confuse a hell of a lot of people!

Well, of course, the most natural way to hold the thing (provided both my hands are free) is in both hands, like I was 10 again, playing Super Mario Bros.

it'd be extra cool if you kept an NES emu + a few classic games on there - so that anytime u plugged it into a computer u could play :-)

Thanks everyone for your comments.

Ah, Mo.Cheeks, that is a sweet idea. Someone also suggested making a switch to go between use as an NES controller and as an iPod Shuffle, so that the glory of 8-Bit Nintendo need never be interrupted.

And yeah, when it was finished, the first thing our firends said was universally: "You guys should move to Tokyo, sell these for a living, and make a bazillion-gillion dollars." But I doubt that any quantity of money can protect us from the combined lawyer-armies of Nintendo and Apple...

Hey that's pretty cool! I made one last christmas, it's all I have uploaded right now. Check it out!

I believe there's a common bond between those who have modded their mp3 players into nes controllers.

i made one with a cheapo mp3 player, i want to do it with a shuffle, so i can use all my itunes purchased music on there. also on the start and select, it would be cool to use push switches that click in and pop back out with another press, it would make the start and select buttons look a lot cleaner. anyway great job! looks really good overall, check out mine if you want.
